WHAT IS KETAMINE INFUSION THERAPY?

Ketamine is a novel treatment that has been referred to as one of the biggest breakthroughs in depression management. Ketamine has been used safely over the past 50 years. The first reference to ketamine’s possible antidepressant effects was published in 1975, and Ketamine is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines.

Ketamine infusion therapy is the exciting new treatment option for Depression, Anxiety, PTSD and OCD. It has an excellent safety profile when given by a trained medical professional. At Keen Minds Ketamine Clinic, we collaborate with patients towards the best possible treatments plan. Our regimen includes 6 sessions over a 2–3-week time span. Typically, after this initial set of treatments, patients will need booster sessions after a period of time. At Keen Minds Ketamine Clinic, we have an experienced team of providers who understand and specialize in ketamine treatment. We also have therapists on-site to guide patients through their treatment journey.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF KETAMINE INFUSION THERAPY?

Research has shown that Ketamine therapy for depression, PTSD, and anxiety has been associated with decreases in the symptoms associated with such psychiatric conditions. Ketamine is believed to block and even reverse the damaging effects of glutamate in the brain. This is a neurotransmitter that can build up to toxic levels in the brain during periods of prolonged stress. Another benefit of Ketamine Infusion Therapy is that it is able to work quickly, which is especially advantageous for patients who are suffering from conditions like depression or post-traumatic stress disorder.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH KETAMINE TREATMENT?

The procedure for ketamine infusion is straight forward. You will receive an intravenous (IV) line started into a vein of your hand or arm so you can receive ketamine through this. A Keen Minds Ketamine Clinic nurse will monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, respirations, and heart rhythm during the treatment. The treatment will be done under the supervision of Keen Minds clinic licensed medical provider and/or registered nurse.

Post infusion, you will have a recovery period of 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on your response and how long you had the infusion for. Once your Keen Minds clinic nurse determines you are stable, you will be released into the care of a relative or a friend who can safely drive you home. Patients will not be allowed to take a taxi or Uber home. They must be released into the care of a family member or a friend.

Keens Minds Clinic ask patients to abstain from the use of alcohol, and/or any illicit substances before treatment and after treatment. We also ask our patients not to operate heavy machinery or drive motor vehicles for 24 hours after the ketamine treatment.
