What is a Suboxone?
Suboxone is the brand name for a prescription medication designed to treat opioid dependence & addiction. Suboxone is the brand name for a combination of two drugs; buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine/naloxone is one of only three FDA-approved medications for opioid use disorder. It’s an oral film that dissolves when you place it under your tongue. This medication works in the brain to alleviate dependence on heroin, fentanyl, and other prescription pain relievers.
How does Suboxone work?
Suboxone treatment helps with withdrawal and cravings caused by opioid addiction but is safer to take because it has a low potential for misuse. This Medication-assisted treatment is highly effective for those struggling with an addiction to opioids as it makes it easier for an individual to break their addictive habits without feeling sick or having cravings. It helps alleviate withdrawal symptoms right away, and also help with cravings and prevent relapse. Suboxone is unique because it also has a “Ceiling Effect,” meaning it does not cause euphoria or sedation. And patients taking Suboxone will be able to function normally, with full mental clarity and focus
What do you need to know before starting a Suboxone treatment?
While you are prescribed Suboxone, you should know that it is dangerous to drink alcohol and take benzodiazepines. By combining alcohol and or take pills with Suboxone, you put yourself at an increased risk of respiratory failure. At Keen Minds, we do not allow our patients on the Suboxone treatment if we feel they cannot complete the treatment without consuming alcohol.
